Gov. Pat Quinn announced a new section to the state’s tourism website Saturday, created to assist LGBT travelers.

The new section comes as part of, and offers suggestions for LGBT-friendly activities, destinations, accommodations and events in each of the state’s four travel regions.

“Our tourism website helps visitors map out their visits to Illinois by giving them information about the great places and activities Illinois has to offer,” Quinn said in a Saturday press release. “Tailoring the site to meet the needs of LGBT travelers will help them make the most of their visit while supporting the growing Illinois tourism industry.”

In addition to information about the massive LGBT community in Chicago and throughout Illinois, the site features restaurants, hotels, shops and entertainment venues approved by Community Marketing Inc.’s Travel Alternative Group as LGBT-friendly.

The site also lists several organizations and websites as resources for LGBT travelers, including links to the Center on Halsted, The Civil Rights Agenda, Equality Illinois and the Chicago Area Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce.
