Circuit Night Club, 3641 N. Halsted St., announced its indefinite closure due to financial stress from the economy and the price of rent in a letter posted on the entertainment company’s website and Facebook page Friday.

Circuit Owner Mike Macharello claims that the price of renting the Boystown storefront from Sterling Properties, a family-owned investment firm, has increased by thousands of dollars, cutting into revenue that would otherwise be reinvested into Circuit and that he needs to renegotiate his lease.

The space at 3641-49 N. Halsted St. features 8,000 square feet currently listed as available for lease at $13,000 per month, according to an October 12 post by broker Matt Friedman.

“I am trying to work a deal out,” Macharello said in the letter to patrons. He hopes a new rent agreement could reposition the company for “a better future, where the money that you spend at Circuit will go directly back into [the business] to make it a better club experience for you and all to enjoy.”

Macharello recently celebrated Circuit’s 15th anniversary. He looks forward to re-opening and re-branding as “Circuit Night Club 5.0.”

A neighbor to Center on Halsted, Whole Foods, Brown Elephant and Kit Kat Lounge and Supper Club, the brokerage listing describes the Circuit property as being in an “amazing location in the trendy Lakeview neighborhood with tons of foot and street traffic.”

Facebook has already garnered messages of support from Circuit customers. Northalsted Business Alliance member Joseph Mendez wrote, “Your club has been a stable pillar in the community as long as I can remember living in the neighborhood.”

Another offered a critique. “That’s a shame, but it’s business,” wrote Gregory Halpern, citing reluctance in patronizing Circuit due to rises in cover charges and price of drinks.
